Testing the physical properties

This is one of the very first parts of the process of testing where the build quality, the overall features, labelling, packing and performance of the device is assessed.

Chemical requirement testing

CPSIA 101 (testing the total amount of lead for coating), testing of the substrate, the content of mercury, CPSIA Phthalate, TCPH, CA PROP 65 testing and ASTM F963 (testing of the heavy metal) are significant aspects of the chemical requirement testing.

UL2272 - UL Certified Hoverboard

This test specifically focuses on the battery pack and the overall power supply of the product. But this test does not assess the product’s overall safety.

Chargers

The battery chargers are required to be assessed precisely, because using self-balancing hoverboards come with several risks including electrocution and overheating of the device.

Batteries

Like the chargers, the batteries too are required to be tested as the lithium batteries used in making the product comes with several cell and fire based hazards. The UL 2580, UL 1642 and the UL2054 are some of the aspects of the battery assessment.

Battery packs

A battery pack is usually tested for ensuring that the voltage, temperature and charge are consistent during operation.

Software

The software gone in making the product are also assessed for addressing the all the prospective risks of failure with regards to the operation of microprocessors which again can lead to dangerous fire hazards, shocks and injuries.

What is UL 2272? UL 2272 Certified Hoverboard

UL 2272- As we already mentioned, UL2272 is a particular safety requirement for the electrical units of self balancing scooters. The regulation was introduced for the first time in February 2016 and according to this a hoverboard model can only be up for sale after its marking, packing, labelling, requirements for user instruction, build and safety features are assessed.
